Deborah Brett at home in Ibiza

Deborah Brett’s Guide to Hosting in Ibiza

I’ve been coming to Ibiza for almost twenty years and grew up going to Mallorca. I love the relaxed feeling you get when landing on the Island. It’s like any worry just melts away.

We settled in the South West of the Island and have a home that looks over the iconic rock of Es Vedra. The rugged and rustic landscape of the sea, rocks and pine trees is what inspired the interiors of our home, where we used a palette of faded blues and Indigo with sabena pines, driftwood and travertine stone, all set off by our famous Mosaic Factory granito tiles. The tiles cover our entire courtyard and are the perfect backdrop to our outside dining area where we love to host friends at night sitting around our three metre stone table under the old pine tree covered in lights. It always makes for the most magical of evenings.

My favourite way to eat in Ibiza is to prepare a whole host of flavoursome fresh salads and then display them on large beautiful serving platters on the centre of the table and let my guests serve themselves. Shop platters here.

I grew up always setting our table with placemats. They’re great on top of a tablecloth and help to preserve linens, they also add flair to a table when you don’t want something as formal as using a linen tablecloth. These woven placemats fit so perfectly with the rustic style of my Ibiza home and can be used at any meal to bring a touch of relaxed elegance. Shop placemats here.

My German grandmother had two styles of cutlery stands when I was growing. Pewter, what I called ‘bobble’ stands for everyday, and crystal stacks for Christmas Eve. Cutlery rests aren’t used much now but when I’m hosting friends for a special dinner in our courtyard I love to make things extra special and adore these coral rests which go so beautifully with the coral tablecloth. Shop cutlery rests here.

The water colour drawings of this Italian linen tablecloth bring the sea to life. Full of sweeping coral and seaweed, fish and sea life. It’s so unique, and really makes an impression on any summer table. Shop tablecloths here.

When it comes to dressing I’m definitely of the ‘more is more’ school of thought. I love adding layers of texture and colour and the same can be said for my interiors and tablescapes. The Sette’s hobnail blue jug and matching tumblers would be a beautiful addition to my Ibiza table. Shop glassware here.

My home in Ibiza is a mix of the rough and relaxed (all driftwood and rattan) with a dose of glamour (the infamous blue tiles) and this cutlery has that relaxed yet refined feel, perfect for my table. Shop cutlery here.

Before dinner in our courtyard I always like to serve chilled rose or sangria on our terrace overlooking the sea and the rock of Es Vedra. And I live to set out fresh crudités with salsa and guacamole, crisps, nuts and flatbreads. These boards are a perfect way to present pre dinner snacks and on a quiet night in we use them to put ‘bits’ on and eat from in front of our outdoor cinema. Shop chopping boards here.
